"The Men of Suncoast"

“I want to leave a legacy. Of a servant who believed that the world could still be changed by just one life.” These are the words of a very powerful song that will be performed at our Missions Banquet. But isn’t that our deepest desire as men? Isn’t that what we so desperately want; to know that when we are turf fertilizer that our lives meant something to the world? That we made a difference; that our lives mattered?

This is what we have been talking about on Monday nights. Let’s not get lose the forest because of all the trees. Each step in a man’s masculine journey has the ultimate goal of having men live a life that mattered. Being the Beloved Son and living the adventurous Cowboy stage were all very necessary steps to get us to be the powerful Warrior who battles the evils of this world, the Lover who rescues the beauty and the Sage who now offers his wisdom, love and experience to others. By the end of all this, if we do not lose heart, our lives will have meant something to the world.

In one of my favorite movies, 10,000 B.C., the old Sage is speaking to the young Warrior/Lover (the hero of the movie), who is reluctant to move into his Kingdom, and says, “A good man draws a circle around himself and cares for those within. His woman, his children. Other men draw a larger circle and bring within their brothers and sisters. But some men have a great destiny. They must draw around themselves a circle that includes many, many more. Your father was one of those men. You must decide for yourself whether you are, as well.

Our Father was one of those men. Of course, his circle encompasses all man-kind. Obviously that is not something we can do as mortal men. But we must decide what kind of man we want to be and purposefully strive to get there. All are good men, all will leave a legacy. And all are important to The Kingdom; Gods Kingdom. But all require sacrifice.

During the month of September there will be many chances for us as men to offer our strength and service to make a difference in this world. Some opportunities will require your time and others will require your treasure but all are important and all need to have the strong support from the Wingmen of Suncoast to be successful. I encourage all Wingmen; as you see these opportunities advertised and presented, make it a priority to get involved in one or two…and encourage your family to join in. Whether this is your first step on your legacy journey or one of your final steps, the work you do and the affect you have on the world will be measurable.

Never, ever leave your Wingman!
